I recently installed Fidora Core 4 on my 5 year old Gateway machine. The OS runs great and is a pleasure using it under KD. A few days after install my mouse seems to have a life of its own and is running around opening and closing windows with out my input. I thought at first somthing was recording what I was doing and playing it back. But it wasn't that at all. It seems like an infection to me. Has anyone else heard of this? If so what is a good antivirus product to install on my machine? When I first boot up it takes about 20 minutes for this to start. So I should have time to install a product that might take care of this. Thanks for your help. A Linux newbie.

Is your mouse wireless and/or optical? What you describes sounds an awful lot like interference, low battery, or a bad optical sensor.

Wireless? Try switching frequency, or moving your receiver.

Optical, Make sure the sensor is gunk-free, and try another (not glossy) surface. Lacquered tables can pose problems.

I am using a new USB optical mouse with a PS/2 addapter. It is plugged into a KVM and was on a smoth surface with no changes in color or texture. I notice that the mouse pointer was slowly drifting across my screen in Windows XP also. I placed the mouse on a book cover and it is not drifting anymore in XP. I will see what it does in Fedora.
