i am experiencing some major problems getting X.org working on a gentoo install. i have described everything in detail on the Gentoo forums, but was hoping to get some help here as well.

the short version is that my mouse and keyboard won't work when i 'startx'. well acutally now my keyboard works but the original problem was with both.

if anyone has experience with X and Xorg, could you take a look and figure out what my problem is? i wouldn't be surprised if it was something easy as i've only ever used the autodetecting flavors of linux such as RedHat and Mandrake, so I've never configured X by hand before.

curmudgeon42; (4) issues causal affects . 1st hardware issues(does not seem ur,s) 2nd, kernel modules issues, 3rd ;permission issues, 4th; configuration issues. check those one by one til problem is left then correct

actually i switched to a PS/2 mouse (with a converter) and it seemed to work after that using the auto protocol. who knows? but in my experience, if it works, you should leave it alone
