Mouse cursor get stuck on the left side of the screen

Hi,

Running CentOS 4.4 with KDE 3.5 and I am having a weird problem with the mouse's cursor.

I noticed this problem yesterday. I was on the server running some tests when suddenly the cursor jumped to the left side of the screen and stayed there. No matter in which direction I move the mouse, the cursor only moves up or down. If I move the mouse really slowly I can move the cursor a bit but it always jump back to the left side.

If I log off, the cursor is fine on the log on screen. Log back in, it is fine for a while then it happens again.

Any idea what I should check?

Check to see if there is something else that is opening a handle to your mouse device.

I had a similar problem with the console mouse handler. It prevented any mouse input in X. Once I disabled it, X (KDE) worked fine.

How do I do that?

During your install did you enable the console mouse handler?

I'm tempted to believe that there is a way to find out what devices the processes running on your system have open, but I'm at a loss at this moment to tell you how.

I installed that a few months ago... I don't remember.

I run yum everyday so maybe I installed something it didn't like.

What kind of mouse, (e.g. which device).

A standard PS/2 mouse.

Not even optical :)

Check the "Similar Threads", there are some that sound like your problem.

I checked them but nothing really conclusive.

But thanks anyway.
