mouse cursor disappears

I am running KDE 3.1 and sometimes, ie. *now*, the mouse cursor disappears when it is supposed to change into a hand or a double-headed arrow. Then every time after that it disappears in the same spots (where it's meant to change) until I reboot. I have no idea whats causing the problem or how to find out what is.
