Unhappy Mounting XP share w/Samba

Mount -t smbfs //FamilyRoom/MyMusic /smb doesn't work!!!

I can see the directory using "network servers" on the start menu.
Also data from smbtree:
HOME
\\LOCALHOST Samba Server
\\LOCALHOST\ADMIN$ IPC Service (Samba Server)
\\LOCALHOST\IPC$ IPC Service (Samba Server)
\\LOCALHOST\tmp Temporary file space
\\KITCHEN Unknown User
\\KITCHEN\IPC$ Remote Inter Process Communication
\\KITCHEN\HARDDRIVE
\\FAMILYROOM WinBox2
\\FAMILYROOM\Printer Lexmark X125
\\FAMILYROOM\CDDriver
\\FAMILYROOM\SimCity 3000
\\FAMILYROOM\MyMusic
\\FAMILYROOM\SharedDocs
\\FAMILYROOM\print$ Printer Drivers
\\FAMILYROOM\IPC$ Remote IPC

When I "ls" in /smb the terminal locks up and shutdown fails because smb is busy. Samba locksup. I wan't xmms to be able to see MyMusic on the XP machine in the familyroom. I use the ME machine in the kitchen for MSMoney and the kids games. I'm setting up the Linux box "localhost" for an MP3 player to tie into the stereo system in the familyroom.

Thanks for any help you can provide

Your mount point needs to be something like:

/mnt/Music

I tried that and got:

[root@localhost mnt]# mkdir mymusic
[root@localhost mnt]# mount -t smb //familyroom/mymusic /mnt/mymusic
Password:
[root@localhost mnt]# ls
cdrom mymusic
[root@localhost mnt]# cd mymusic
[root@localhost mymusic]# ls

The cursur locked up after that ls command.
Thanks for input

try on linux box:

1. man smbclient

2. smbclient \\\\windoze_machine_name_or_ip_address\\share_name -U existing_windoze_account

did you see smb: \> prompt ?
type 'dir' , press enter key
did you see anything ?

Yes I can see the dir w/smbclient thanks. I'm trying to get it mounted so I can open the files across the network w/ xmms. Do you have to have an entry in fstab for the mount to work?

FSTAB:
LABEL=/ / ext3 defaults 1 1
LABEL=/boot /boot ext3 defaults 1 2
none /dev/pts devpts gid=5,mode=620 0 0
none /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0
none /proc proc defaults 0 0
none /sys sysfs defaults 0 0
/dev/hda3 swap swap defaults 0 0
/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom udf,iso9660 noauto,owner,kudzu,ro 0 0

???

Try adding this line to fstab:

//familyroom/mymusic /mnt/mymusic smbfs username=Guest,password=defaults,workgroup=WORKGROUPNAME 0 0

Note no spaces after the comma's and substitute your workgroup name.

It worked with my linux to XP machines. It should be active after the next linux reboot.

That worked thanks for everyones help!!!

Now I need an mp3 player.... fedora's release of xmms has mp3 stripped out!!! I have a collection of 200+ cd's. I have ripped them all, but just in case I stole them, they won't let me play them. What happened in America, but I digress.

Thanks again everyone. I'll work on the next problem awhile by myself.

........

BTW, you may build whatever you wish from source or *.src.rpm files.

Good luck !
