Hi again

After a long time away from the forum I'm back with some few questions .

1 - I'm currently using BlackBox and it's great with BBconf. Though, I've created a shortcut into my main menu (the one you open with mouse right click) where you can choose Midnight Commander. Into bbconf I've set:

xterm -exec mc

to run Midnight Commander from the menu and it works. Though, is there anyway to make it (MC) run maximized? I know we can iconify an item with "iconic" but I don't know how to maximize one

2 - Is there anyway to create a shortcut into the main menu to shutdow the system? Otherwise I've to run a console, login as su - and type shutdown -h now. I'm a lazy gnome user, so if I can create such shortcut would be nice...

3 - I'm getting loads of error messages now when I try to run some gnome application through Blackbox which did not happen before. E.g, when I try to run

gnome-volume-control

I get the an error window with :

"An error occurred while loading or saving configuration information for gnome-volume-control. Some of your configuration settings may not work properly."

Click'n in the button details, I get:

Configuration server couldn't be contacted:
CORBA error: IDLmg.org/CORBA/BAD_OPERATION:1.0
Configuration server couldn't be contacted:
CORBA error: IDLmg.org/CORBA/BAD_OPERATION:1.0
Configuration server couldn't be contacted:

Closing this window, I can use gnome-volume-control without a problem. The same happens with almost all other applications I try to run. It's not a big deal, but it can really get annoying sometimes. Is there any problem I've removed to screw it up like that? Any help would be great.

One down and two to go

I don't know about "maximized" as such (maybe "maximize"?), but you can play around with '-geometry' and not just position the window, but size it, too - just make it really big.

I don't know how to pass a command through an su because you're invoking a secondary shell - anything after su gets lost. Although I seem to remember reading a way. But you could just change it so that users can shut down the system. It sounds like a permissions thing more than a blackbox thing.

On number three, just in case somebody comes across it I might as well mention that I had problems with some KDE apps in blackbox and adding --with-non-KDE-compliant-window-manager (can't remember if "with" was part of it or not) to the command line (or menu line) actually made them work, as odd as it sounds.

BTW, you might want to give fluxbox a spin. I used blackbox a lot and switched to fluxbox although you might think it isn't anything special - just depends on what you like - they're 99% the same.

Oh about the sig, there's a reason behind it. My first serious girlfriend called herself of insane, when she actually was an ordinary girl. Nothing really special about her. I was way more insane then her (and believe me, I'm a kinda really calm down person, not insane at all, but more insane then she was). She got so angry about me when I said I was more insane then she was. We broke up for like 5 years ago now, and we are kinda enemies now (why everybody hates their bosses and why is hard to be friends after an ended relationship are misteries), so my signature is made to still annoy her .
Yeah, it's a pretty low punch, but feels so great lol.

Well, if it makes you happy. And, yeah, post-relationship friendships... rarely work out too well.

I think I might have made a mistake with that KDE app suggestion though - when I was using it, it was on a really old distro and an older version of blackbox but I either screwed up the command or it doesn't seem to apply with current software because the flag gave me error messages. But it's still an issue in that most KDE apps work but, say, Konqueror doesn't. I don't use Konqueror so it doesn't bother me but... I dunno. It *did* work, anyhow.

And don't worry about the English - your English is fine - and WAY better than my Swedish.
