mono on suse linux pro 9.1

Hi guys,
I'd like to install mono on my pc, but on the download page http://www.mono-project.com/Downloads there is no version for suse 9.1

Since I'm quite newbie, I tried the packages for the 9.2 but I don't manage to install them all.
mono-complete-1.1.7-1.novell.i586.rpm installs (and contains) no files ( :s )
libgdiplus-1.1.7-0.suse92.novell.i586.rpm requires libgif.so.4 which I can't find anywhere

then the most noob question..
how am I supposed to run the mono development environment, just to check whether/how it works??

Instead of using the rpm's, you may want to consider using the Mono Installer, which is suitable for all distributions.

thanks for the advice.

unfortunately after the installation I don't manage to load monoDevelop..
I get no response, it just doesn't seem to work.
any idea?
