modprobe bttv errors

When I do modprobe bttv, this is what happens:

[root@localhost root]# modprobe bttv
/lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/drivers/media/video/bttv.o: init_module: No such device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg
/lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/drivers/media/video/bttv.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/drivers/media/video/bttv.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.20-8/kernel/drivers/media/video/bttv.o: insmod bttv failed
[root@localhost root]#

I am not sure what this means. I am using the Comporo Video Mate TV Gold+ card which has the Philips 7133/7134 chip set.

Thanks for any help.

Are you trying to use Xawtv? Because if you are, try this command in xterm:
xawtv -c /dev/video0

When I try that, this is what happens:

[root@localhost root]# xawtv -c/dev/video0
This is xawtv-3.81, running on Linux/i686 (2.4.20-8)
can't open /dev/video0: No such device
v4l-conf had some trouble, trying to continue anyway
v4l2: open /dev/video0: No such device
v4l2: open /dev/video0: No such device
v4l: open /dev/video0: No such device
no video grabber device available
[root@localhost root]#

sounds like your card is not registering. I looked into some other posts and nobody seems to have a viable solution. Can I suggest upgrading to Fedora Core 1? Or ASPLinux? Under both of these, xawtv works beautifully. Maybe you need to recompile your kernel or upgrade to a newer version?BTTV and xawtv definitely work under 2.4.3.

Well, I am trying to reinstall the bttv driver, and this is what is says:

The present kernel configuration has modules disabled.
Type 'make config' and enable loadable module support.
Then build a kernel with module support enabled.

Where do I go to make config? I can figure out what to do when I get there, I just dont know how to get there.

modprobe bttv errors

After upgrading to FC3 my WinTv card stopped working as well.
I
cd /lib/modules/2.6.9-1.681_FC3/kernel/drivers/media/video
Then
modprobe bttv
modprobe tuner

Eveything was right as rain.

Hope it works for you.

Thanks for any help.
You are loading the wrong module.

Try modprobe saa7134
