Hey guys, just for fun, im recompiling my redhat 9 kernel.
im going to remove things that i dont want, e.g. usb keyboard.
anyway, will it be possible to use modprobe to
load modules compiled for my other kernel, example
my hsf linmodem, or nvidia driver ????
and how would i do that ?
also, ive tried to compile the latest (stable) kernel 2.4.22 (as reported by kernel.org)
could i somhow get the 2.4.20-8 compiled hsf driver to work with 2.4.22 ????
ive tried re-installing the hsf rpm under the new kernel, but it just tells me to go back to the site it came from and download an rpm compiled for my kernel (which i cant do, as they dont provide a driver fot thid kernel, the generic rpm doesnt work, and when they finaly do support it, i would have to pay
could i install hsf-linmodem rpm while booted under 2.4.20-8 then boot 2.4.22 and modprobe the hsf module ?????????
ohh, one more thing, am i correct in thinking insmod is for inderting / loading kernel modules.... and modprobe is for backwards compatability ?????
