modify text of an jpg file on linux with gimp 2.0.4

I want to modify text of an jpg file on linux with gimp 2.0.4.
It seems that I cannot modify text of an jpg file because there is no
concept of "text" in the jpg file, everything is an image.
Therefore I decide to add text to the jpg file to "cover/hide" the
original text.
I use the "Text tool" by clicking the "T" icon.
A popup window appear, I type the text, then close the window.
My text appear in the jpg file.
However, after I add (insert) the text to the jpg file, I cannot
change or move my text with the original image.
I can move the original image but my text will not move, it will stay
in the same location.

Gimp uses layers. When you create text, gimp creates a layer for it. Your text should be on that layer. You can merge the first layer the image is on and the text layer if you wish. To see all the stuff, open up the layer dialog. Dialog->Layers (or something similar). When you save as a jpg it will merge all the layers as well. So if you save as jpeg, then reopen it should move as one as well.
