modify target name for further compilations...
Hi,
what I refer to when talking about 'modify target name' is changing the target triplet, as I've seen it can be customized to a certain extent...
in my case, and by default, whatever package I'm going to compile, the config.guess scripts always tell me my target name is x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu
this annoys me a bit, as I've seen (to be precise) in the gcc compilation test results page, that there's several names for the x86-64 architecture, in the form of:
1. x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu
2. x86_64-suse-linux-gnu
and in the GNU C Library (glibc) manual I've seen the target can also be specified in the form of amd64-*-linux-gnu, where I suppose the asterisk is the field that can be customized (in example: amd64-custom-linux-gnu)
and my question is:
A. how can I modify the target name to accomodate for my architecture? I have an AMD Athlon64 3500+ cpu, hence the intention to have the target triplet to reflect my current architecture
B. is there the need to make any kind of adjustment to the compilation flags for... in example... the toolchain? or maybe, every package I need to compile (because maybe they're assuming a certain target name by default)?
I'd appreciate if anyone could help me with this, as you can see, it will surely be only a matter of 'customizing' my system, but what really annoys me is having 'unknown' instead of 'amd64', 'pc' or just the appropiate name it deserves and not the name it is getting currently...
Thanks in advance,
Julio
