modem with kernel
 
i have installed RH9 with kernel 2.4.20-8.my modem is motorola sm56 modem.the driver of this modem from www.sm56.tk doesn't work with this precompiled kernel.i have tried even after compiling kernel with gcc2.96 but it ended in vein.but when i compile kernel 2.4.18-14 with gcc2.96 my modem works fine.so my question is,is there any way to run use my modem without having kernel2.4.18-14 and with kernel2.4.20-8.if yes plz tell me the exact method.thankyou

Have u tried it with the latest 2.4.21 stable release yet? Get it from kernel.org.

should i download complete kernel or just the patch?

I'd suggest getting the full source... RedHat's kernel are usually a modified release... although their build tend to break more things than the stock kernels!
