Modem configured but not working
 
im new to linux so bear with me . So i have gotten this fare as i have loaded Suse 9.2 Pro most of it working now but cant git on line to update it , i have a Dell Latitude C840 Laptop with a model PCTel Dell modem internal i understand from other Threads i have read it may not have the driver installed The modem is configured as modem 0 ,,i think my question is can i youse the same modem driver from dell downloads that works on windows or is there a linux driver i need instead Thanks Dave

A quick answer is no, windows modem drivers will not work in linux systems. I'm not sure about your version but 10.2 has a couple of drivers for win modems on the installation dvd. In the repository for 9.2 might have these modems listed. Maybe someone has 9.2 that can help more than I have.

You'd be best to go here and do a little reading, follow instructions on how to use the small utility called "scanModem tool". It will pump out all the information required to get it going using source/pre-compiled packages, you'll need to install some development tools and libraries. The scanModem tool's output text files will mention so if need.
