Missing prompt in terminal


Recently the prompt in my terminal window has dissapeared (see attached). All there is a blinking cursor. Typed in comands do not get executed.I get the same behavior when I switch to one of the tty's too.

Distro is Linux Mint 7.

Wow...well, I think your bash prompt is'nt set (properly), try the info on this page...

I booted off of the live CD and copied the bash binary from the CD to my HD installation. Terminal works again now, when I compared the md5sum hashes for the 2 binaries, they differed.

WOW!!! Now that is sharp thinking (no kidding!) of you. The sums may differ, but that's not really relevant, as long as you trust the source where it all came from. That sum is mostly needed if there's stuff dripping in from the Internet...
