Missing O/S reported when booting the clone system disk.
We are using a CF card as boot disk. After cloned a new CF card by "dd" command, it can't be boot it and reported "missing operation system", even the partition was marked as active partition. Why and how to fix it?
I was holding back posting on this thread to see if somebody else posted who knows more than I about this. I am not terribly familiar with CF cards so you may need to fill in the gaps or take what I say with a grain of salt.
My understanding is that CF cards are organized like hard drives on x86 systems: they have an MBR with a partition table and one or more partitions. The error message sounds to me like you copied a partition but did not copy the MBR.
I hope this helps.
That makes sense. What he is saying (for example) is that you should try:
dd if=/dev/sda of=/dev/sdb
dd if=/dev/sda1 of=/dev/sdb1
(edit: note, this will copy the partition table as well as the mbr. Make sure that the disk you are copying to is at least as big as the one you are copying from, or you may need to fix the partition table).
