Missing fixed width fonts in KDE

I am running KDE 3.1.4 on Gentoo 1.4 and have one strange problem I haven't had on any other distro. When configuring the fixed width fonts in Appearance & Themes I only get one font called fixed. For other font selections (e.g. General, Toolbar) I get all fonts. They also show up with xfontsel and anywhere else in KDE. They just are not in that one list where I would like to set my fixed width font.

Hope you can help.
