Missing 99% of my menu in KDE.

Hey guys, I'm pretty new here.
I've worked with linux years ago but I gave up since RedHat 5.2
Now I tought to make use of it again so Installed RH9.
runned apt to upgrade all the kde stuff, and now everything has dissapeard from my menu.
Did I do something wrong or so?
Now all I can do is open up a console and start things manually.
How can I fix this?

Also another question.
the reason I started with linux again is because I had enough of M$ bullshit. However, I do need some applications for my work from it.
I mainly compress DVD's into VCD ( MPEG1)
Funny thing is, I am able to start TMPGenc and tools but I can't browse to the files.
Anybody any idea about this?

Kind regards,
Attila
