Misc Questions
1] I installed Kubuntu 6.06 2 days back and at the start i think the first five or 6 times when i booted it, it used to give this error on bootup:
"The Process for media protocol died unexpectedly."
i wanna know what this error is about and is there anything to worry?
2] I have mounted my FAT32 and NTFS drives, the problem is that when i go into a FAT32 drive and right click and make a new file suppose a Kate file, it allows me to create it and i cna save it. While if i start Kate first and then make a file and try saving it from the File->Save in the Kate Menu it does let me save in any of the FAT32 drives....
There are two methods to create a file on a specific location.
Suppose we want to create a simple text file using Kate then
a] go to that location, right click in some empty place and click create new and then text file and give it a name, edit ans save it.
b] open kate and make a file and then from file menu choose where to save.
The problem is that i can do the first method in the FAT32 partitions but not the second, any reason? it gives an error, next time i will try to quote the error. till then sorry..
3] Yesterday i was working on KPDF and by mistake the main menu of KPDF i.e. ,"File Edit View Tools Help" became Invisible. I wanna make it back what to do?
4] Is there anyway i can make Desktop icons like windows of Storage Device, and other thing like Home and etc, actually i tried this:
i went to into the main directory and drag the item i wanted the shortcut to be and dropped it on desktop and made a shortcut but the icon of it is like terminal.
5] Can anyone recommend me some good softwares related to Multimedia, CD buring, Browser (Is Konqeror okay?) etc, i know the sites from the guide.... Is there any offline installation of Wine available for Kubuntu?
6] How to play *.dat files
7] Yesterday i was working on OpenOffice.org 2.0. And after i completed, i inetionally made some mistakes to check how much OpenOffice is good but as i see it doesn't check spelling mistakes. It only starts checking and give the completion message without any errors.

Linux is about learning an OS instead of just using what is being told you should use. Linux has to many apps to mention and everyone has his/hers own opinion about them.
Use google smart, in other words; learn how to search for linux apps and read what is being said about them (just try some, its free). Simply browsing the sofware section of LQ should be a good start aswell.
Questions like this are mostly ignored by members, try first then ask.
Forget about Wine btw, if you want that just use Windows.
Well, to not leave you empty handed:
multimedia: mplayer & xine
cd burning: k3b
browser: Firefox
I hope you find out how to install them on your own.

Well i just shifted from windows to linux. a Completely nobody in linux and then why i shifted is the security. So you see i am a newbie, i really have no idea where to begin with, i am currently reading my kubuntu user guide, hope i find something kool, and again yup i could search google and other places but i tried and they mostly give the source code or the rpm files and i don't know how to deal with both, i only know about deb files, and that also came into my mind by co-incidence, well thanks for the help, i will be abck with more difficult question next time...
Okay, I'm running into the same thing, also w/ Kubuntu 6.0.
...only nothing works afterward. I've had to boot to recovery mode (root) to get this message out.
I've been having problems w/ OO telling me the HDD is full, but I can find no evidence of this. I also have 86 dormant processes in my user "top". -Which sounds like a #@!! of a lot.
