MIME types all = application? after moving home as su

I just had some serious difficulties, bought on myself i hasten to add (http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...508#post694508) and i had to copy/move my whole /home round a bit, which messed up all the permissions, which i reset to (dunno if this is right) -rwx-rx-rx -dibble -users for ALL of /home (i only have one user).

that all seems ok - but the mime types have all been set to application? i use rox and i had a similar problem copying stuff over from my windows partitions, images would stop showing as thumbs. have i seriously goofed up all my file extentions or can the mimes be reset?

i moved everything using a gui filemanager, was that super dumb? should i have used a cli command to retain permissions and mime types?

ekkkk!
