Maybe your distribution provides such kernels for you. Just search for 'SMP" kernels.
If you'll recompile the kernel yourself, check "Symmetric MultiProcessing" option.

Just make sure you enable SMP (Symmetric multi-processing support) when you config the kernel... make xconfig is nice and easy. What kernel are you compiling?

Yes, and if you search the distro disk you will probably find an SMP kernel available to install... What distro???
