Smile Migrate thunderbird mail from windows to linux

Hello guys, I will change OS from windows xp to linux soon and now I'm using Mozilla thunderbird as the mail client. I need to backup all my e-mails, currently I use MozBackup which I think it can restore the backed up data only in windows. Does it have any tool for backing up data in windows and restoring it in linux? If there're no any, can I do it manually?

Thank you very much in advance for your help

as far as i remember it is possible to have a linux and windows version of thunderbird use the same data files, so no real need to 'convert' here.

Welcome to LQ!!

All you have to do is to copy the entire configuration folder and then install it in your HOME directory when you install Thunderbird. In Windows, it will be in something like:
Documents and Settings/username/Local Settings/Application Data/Mozilla/Thunderbird/Profiles. Look for a gobbledygook name like "
06zlp31f.default"

In Linux, this goes to a hidden directory in your $HOME directory--eg /home/username/.mozilla/thunderbird. One quirk is that the directory naming can change based on the order in which Mozilla components are installed. The best way is to start Thunderbird as a new user and start configuring it, and then canceling. Find the profile folder it creates and then replace it with the one you copied form Windows.
