Question Microsoft Access and Publisher's Alternative

I heard that Openoffice.org is a wonderful alternative to MS-Word,PowerPoint and Excel. how about Access and Publisher? It will be good if these 2 version can be added into Openoffice.org if not is there other similar programs that support these 2 programs?
Thanks.

OpenOffice Base, for a database application like Access.
OpenOffice is also effectively Publisher, with most the basic options one could want.
You could also look into Scribus.

There are quite a few Access alternatives. OpenOffice.org Base, Kexi, Glom, Knoda, Rekall, and Bond are some worth looking at.

Publisher alternatives include Scribus, Artstream, PageStream, Passpartout, and VivaDesigner. I recommend starting with Scribus.

If your needs are at all sophisicated, don't depend on OOBase. Last time I checked which, admittedly, was a year or so ago, none of the others mentioned by Marsolin was a neat substitute either.

The closest thing that I have seen to MS Access (which I used professionally for years) is ReKall used as a front end for MySQL or Postgresql. The learning curve is steep, but it can be done.
