Message to upgrade yahoo messenger...yeah right!
When I sign into gaim for yahoo it gives me a message telling me to upgrade my client so I can communicate with Windows Live Messenger users. Well guess what (well you already know, but hell...) there IS no improved client for linux. This pisses me off so I contacted yahoo customer services:

In fact the linux client is so woefully out of date that the page proudly announces that it has been tested on Red Hat 9 - a product that is now over 5 years old. Yahoo are missing an opportunity here in that they could be the first messenger service to offer a featureful and complete client for their service for linux users (how likely are Microsoft to do the same?!). There are tens of thousands (probably many more) linux users out there who post on message boards asking about Y! messenger for linux and they're all told the same thing - use a third party client. C'mon yahoo, PLEASE give us linux users a decent client.

It'll make no difference, I'm sure, but I await a response. And I urge others do also complain about lack of clients (starting with yahoo). I think too often we just sit by and accept the fact that even free software is not available for our platform when really we should give them an idea of levels of interest by sending them emails!! |
