Mesa3d removal

K, I'm trying to get good openGL performance and from what I've studied so far, I need to get rid of my mesa stuff and install either DRI or Schneider GL drivers.
I know where to get everything and I'm kinda ok with installing them, but can anyone help with removing the mesa and getting the new stuff into my system (or just know a good Howto someplace)?
(I thikn this is what I need to do in order to obtain good 3d performance.)

Thanks in advance for any assistance

JF
