Mercury and xmms: sound problems

Hi all, I'm using Mercury on Fedora Core 4. I can hear the sounds Mercury plays, but my problem is, when I use xmms while running Mercury, xmms says other program is blocking the sound card. Is there a way to solve this?? (i.e. is there a way to configure Mercury to use artsplay as sound daemon?) BTW, I'm using KDE and xmms is configured to use artsplay as output.
