Question Mepis 2.6.7 Kernel make/build error

Recently I switched to Mepis linux, so I could actually use my wifi card
That works like a dream, but i need to compile the kernel to install my nvidia drivers

Forgeting exactly how to do this doesn't help any
however I did look it up

but when it comes to the make install I get an error

root@6[/]# make install
make: *** No rule to make target `install'. Stop.

Can anyone possibly help me out with this?

The strange thing is that in the /lib/modules/2.6.7/build director exists
but it only contians:

bootsplash-3.1.4-sp3-2.6.7.diff
Kernel-Win4Lin3-2.6.7.patch
linux-2.6.4-mppe-20040216.patch
mki-adapter26_1_3_6.patch

Is that normal?

Any help would be greatly appriciated
