menu editing in GNOME

hi all,

i have started an open source project of a menu editor for gnome, to build one that would work in a similar way kmenuedit does for kde. it is being built on a dropline gnome install, but i am trying to make it compatible with various gnome distributions.

i am wandering if this could interest the community before i spend loads of time on this.

thanks for any input,

cheers,

aj.

i'm honestly surprised to see so little interest...

wandering if this is due to a lack of gnome users, or a lack of interest in the project itself. any feedback more than welcomed.

best cheers to you all,

aj.

hmm... I don't see why you would need something like that , since editing the menu in gnome is not bad the way it is. I would rather like to see a console that supports colors in gnome, just like the kde one. But on the other hand you may wanna try the project. This may save a few noob questions as to "how do I add a program to teh menu"

My $.02

I think its good that your are starting this project. Menu editing is a bit cumbersome in GNOME for newbies and I am sure that once you have your application working, and post it somewhere like gnomefiles.org, you may find a lot of support for it.

Yep, will be good for noobs, but if you have contact with some Gnome developers, tell them about the colors in console, it's just pain.

I would appreciate it if you could write a gnome menu editor.

I just want to say that Gnome console DO support colors, simply add the line:

alias ls="ls --color=auto -F"

To the ~/.bashrc file

And lastly, YES!!! a menu editing application for Gnome is a great idea, i was thinking on doing one myself, in fact, there's one project, but it runs un python, i prefer something more binary that doesn't depend on other packages
