mencoder raw
 

Hi, I ripped some digital video off a camera with firewire. they were encoded to raw .dv files. I am trying to make them into anything other than raw but I get a message saying that "Sorry, this file format is not recognized/supported" I basically don't know how to use mencoder, so could someone point me to some help or just tell me how to get mencoder to recognize raw files?

First, try using mplayer on the file "mplayer file" and see if it'll even play it. If mplayer won't play it try looking at the transcode packages to see if you can get any headway on it. "tcprobe -i file" will give you relevant information(if transcode can understand the file) about the encoding and such....

possibly the version of menocedr you have doesn't support dv format. if you recompile it with libdv installed, it should support it then.

how can I get this file and how would I recompile it , I am somwwhat of a newbie.
