Mencoder freezing during encoding process
 

Hi everyone,

First post here. I've been a user of PcLinuxOs for a couple of weeks now and I am just trying to get everything working like it should. My questions revolves around the use of Mencoder to rip dvds to .avi using VidX. I've been able to rip a couple of my movies successfully and it works. However, for the last few movies that I've done, Mencoder will just get slower and slower and then it will stop at a certain percentage. I was hoping someone here could help me.

The commands that I have been using for this process are:

mencoder dvd:// -oac mp3lame -ovc xvid -xvidencopts pass=1 -o /dev/null

mencoder dvd:// -oac mp3lame -ovc xvid -xvidencopts pass=2 bitrate=1000 -o <filename.avi>

I'm using a Dell Inspiron 9300 with 1 gb ram. Thanks for any help!

Can anyone help me? One way I'm trying now is to copy the dvd directly to the computer and from there encode it into a smaller file. Seems to be working right now, but I'm still curious as to why it doens't like being run in the dvd drive. Any suggestions?
