Mem-leak in X??

Hi!

I have been noticing for a long time that when I run many memory-intensive apps, my RAM gets quickly filled up. If I then restart X, RAM is cleared to some degree. At least amount of free RAM is back up on a reasonable value. So why does that happen? Is there some kind of memory leak in X? Or am I missing something really basic here?

Thanx.

NB. I'm using Xorg (no fancy config or anything) and KDE on a Debian sid right now. But this problem persists on other distros too (Slack and Mdk among others).

X caches memory for all applications that use X. The memory will get swapped out if it is not used. Free memory is more appropriately called wasted memory - it's not doing anything to improve the performance of the system.
