Put your songs and your playlist in a networked directory which can be seen from both computers and then you can use any player you like from either computer. If you use set up the computer holding the files as a Samba server then both Windows and Linux computers on your network will be able to play the files.

Is that what you are looking for? Or do you want to do streaming? If so then I don't know, but I'm sure that it's possible to set up on Linux.

mounted shares

AFAIK, with xmms at least, you must mount the directory first.

if you just open a Network Servers nautilus window and try to play the song from a remote SMB share, it doesn't seem to work. if you mount the remote SMB share (put it in /etc/fstab, and for security sake use the credentials=<file> option), you can play the files across the network.

advice, if you're sharing with friends (or just roomates), make the share available RO.
