Question mdk config problem

since all the times that ive had a problem ive come here, and gotten answers that have helped...i thought i might try again

i was previously using slack 8.1, but decided for being as complete a n00b as i was, that i should try using a less steep distro, so i installed mandrake 9.0

its been running quite well (as far as i can tell) except for one minor (or maybe major) problem-the mandrake control center will not open. when i click on the button to load it (either on the bar, or in the kicker menu) it will just show that its loading in the bottom, as long as i dont press anything...but as soon as any buttons are pressed, the thread mysteriously dies...

any help on fixing this would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

i hope that you have the mandrake install cd
first to uninstall mcc
do
rpm -qa|grep drakconfig
it returns something like
drakconfig-XXX
now
rpm -e drakconfig-XXX
now mount your cdrom
mount /mnt/cdrom
now
rpm -ivh /mnt/cdrom/Mandrake/RPMS/drakconfig-XXX
keep posted

it doesnt return anything for the first command...

does that mean its already uninstalled and just needs to be installed again? that could be causing the problem :P

as i said
get your installer(or the first) mandrake cd
mount it
mount /mnt/cdrom
go to the RPMS directory
it is usually
/mnt/cdrom/Mandrake/RPMS(see)
now install drakconfig
now install it
rpm -ivh --nodeps drakconf<press tab here to get full filename>

sounds like you're missing a few more packages...that would be my first guess.

Is Perl installed?

rpm -qa | grep perl

or

rpm -qa | grep Perl

you may have upgraded your installation
the perl libraries are used with the number
so see if /usr/local/lib/perl5/<some number> exists
then
locate Gtk.pm
copy the Gtk.pm to @INC
it should work
