many instances of gpg-agent

Is it normal for a system to have many instances of gpg-agent running? (I have 11 at the moment) the oldest one is over 6 weeks old, with a few seconds cpu time. I do not operate any mail- og webservers, the only encrypted remote service I run is sshd.

If I kill a few of these processes, will that mess up my system so I will have to reboot, or simply crash whatever program is using them?

edit: I have 5 instances of saslauthd running as well, all of them 6 weeks old, 0.00 cpu time. Are they critical to keep the system up?
