This is my second day on linux, and I must say, this OS is the future. Microsoft cant touch it...
Anyway, Im using Mandriva powerpack 2007. 64 bit, I think. I have a little sound issue I cant seem to figure out. Im going crazy not being avle to listen to music, so the help from the community is much appriciated. I am using a Creative soundblaster audigy platinum eX.
When I boot, this is the message it gives me:
Sound server informational message:
Error while initializing the sound driver:
device /dev/dsp can't be opened (No such device)
The sound server will continue, using the null output device.
And another little thing. I installed Wine windows emulator, and cant seem to figure out how to open the program. Any help? Thanks

Hmmm ... do what it says. Type dmesg - and post here a few lines.
Alsaconf obviously does not come with Mandriva, I guess it is replaced by some GUI tool.
Generally the error you get means kernel modules are not built for the kernel currently in use. That's kind of weird. Did you update your kernel recently and haven't rebooted yet?
OK, this dmesg is useless, your firewall is logging into same file.
If you did not upgrade your kernel try running depmod -a. I'm running out of ideas here. The radical solution is to build a custom kernel, do not know if you are ready for that. Another option would be a kernel upgrade using Mandriva system management tools, whatever they are called.
