ManDrake9.2 no PPP program

Hello-

I just installed ManDrake9.2 last night. It installed without problem. However, after I set up the information required to dial out with my modem, I could not locate the PPP dialer program on the Desktop or anywhere else, even with being Root Console and looking for the PPPd. How can I find the PPP dialer program to put on my desktop? Is there a place I can download one, or is it supplied on the ManDrake 9.2 CDs?

Next problem. No audio while playing CD music. Any suggestions?

Thanks much for your help.

Those two questions would probably be best in separate threads.

As for the missing PPP dialer, just go into the Mandrake Control Center into the Add Software section and search for "dialer" or "ppp" (in discriptions) for optional software included in the CDs. I think there are a few dialers bundled in the CDs.

As for the sound, are you getting sound from playing other files? What program are you using to play CDs? Honestly, I am not sure I have ever played a CD on any of my Mandrake systems.

Thanks for your response. Here is the problem. There is not a Mandrake Control Center on the Desktop or in any of the sub menu. It seems that the installatioin did not go so well. Oh yeah, I am a newbee and of course the newbee factor is a factor. Just trying to get my Linux working so my Mom can use the computer without Win98.

Could you provide me specific stepts to take in order to get the PPP dialer found, installed and working.

Thanks again.

Go to menu/configuration/packaging/install software. Once you're there, type in the search box "kppp" and you should get a match. It's the kPPP program that's used for dialing up. Check the box next to it and select install. It should prompt you for one of the mandrake cd rom's and after it's installed, you should see it's icon under the networking/remote access tab.

Hi Redeye2-

Thanks much for your help. It worked. I have the Feaking PPP icon on the Desktop now and my Mom won't beat my butt

One of these days it will all come together. Moving from Win98 to a Linux Lover.

Again Thanks

Dick
