Mandrake won't boot GUI

Hey guys, I'm a complete Linux n00b and Mandrake 10.1 is the first distro I've used. After installing it yesterday, I have had no problem loading into the OS and doing what I want to do with the GUI, but now when I boot into Linux it brings me to a black command prompt where it asks me to login. After I login, all I can do is use commands, does anyone know how I can boot back into the GUI that I was using? I believe it was KDE...

what is the default runlevel? 3?

once you log in, try this command (as root): runlevel

it will say :
Code:
# runlevel
N 5
In your case (I guess) it willl say N 3

right? If that's the case, it means the default run level is 3. You would have to set it at 5.

Edit the /etc/inittab file.

There's a line that sets the default run level.

It has to say:
id:5:initdefault:

In case you need a visual editor, switch to the graph mode with:
init 5

Tell me about your findings.

You have to configure X.

As root, use the command XFdrake
