mandrake problems


i have just installed mandrake 9.1, yes i will be upgrading to 10 but for the moment.

i loads into the text mode and when i run startx it displays:

hostname: host name lookup failure

execve failed for /etc/X11/X (errno 2)
giving up
xinit: no such file or directory (errno 2)
xinit: no such process (errno 3): server error


could you help me fix this problem, oh yes i am a complete newbie
