Mandrake install probs ...

Hi,

Have Mandrake 9.0 installed (dual boot with XP) ,
when startup after login gives a "server crash" ,

problem is with video hardware i "think"

have a pci graph board (Hercules 9000 powered bij ATI) , & an I810 chipset (video is disabeled by bios setting , my screen is attached on the PCI graph board )
applied the patch from the errata page from mandrake but it's no good evolution ,

now it gives on screen:
/ETC/X11/X86CONFIG-4
using VT7
EE no matchin device dor instance PCI 0:1:0

can anyone help me with this issue ? checked out some forums but no clear answer for my problem i "think"

Thank you !

Maybe Mandrake didn't install the drivers for your video card. Can you boot into a text console?

If so, you could try downloading ATI's drivers for the Radeon 9000 (which your card is equivalent to, I think) at http://www.ati.com/support/drivers/l...e&cmdNext=Next and installing them, following the instructions on the link. It has to be done through the command line, but it shouldn't be too hard.

But even if the ATI drivers aren't installed, I thought there was a generic driver that at least allowed it to run X. Perhaps Mandrake did not auto-detect your graphics card.

If you get any different errors after installing the drivers, post them here.

Good luck with Mandrake and with Linux in general!
