I have problems with installing software when i am using rmpdrake. Fist of all i needed a something for the Nvidia driver called "binutils".I could find it and wanted to install it. Linux asks for cd1 so i did. Then it was reading my cd rom and BANG linux crashed. Its doing it all the time.
Also i needed some software for gaim , linux asked me to download some things , linux asked again for cd 1 so it did. And again it crashed.
I already have reinstalled Mandrake 9.1 butt i have to same problems.
There should be no reason for Mandrake to crash while your installing updates. How about you try downloading the updates instead of using RPMDrake. It may take a little bit of work to do but Mandrake that I have see now is for the newbies. After trying out Slackware. Downloading them may seem like a lot of work but if you have the One Page Linux Manual handy it should be quite simple.
There seems to be something more going on here than failing updates. I would suspect the CDs, since that is when you are getting the problem. Are you able to verify that they are not corrupted? I would be checking the CDs more than anything at this stage.
SyM, you don't need to apologise for your language skills; your English is MUCH better than my .............(insert your language here).
The cds are oke , i foudn out that my Cd writer (Lite-on 40x12x48) gives linux problems. I already tryed to install a game , butt when i am trying to mount from it linux will crash. So i thought oke i will unplug my cd writer and use my normal cd-rom. Butt rpm-drake is still asking to putt the cd in my cd-writer. Does anyone has a solution for my problem ? Already thnx ,
I have exactly the same CD-RW (Lite-On LTR-40125S) and Linux has no troubles with it. Since your CDs are OK, the next suspect would be the power supply in your computer. You have described the classic symptoms of an inadequate power supply: as the CD-RW motor spins up, the power supply can't maintain a stable voltage on the +12V rail. This would affect the processor if you have a Pentium 4 or AMD Athlon from about 1.0GHz onwards. See here for more info:
