mandrake 9.1 compared to redhat 9.0 w/ nvidia driver

hi,

i installed the nvidia drivers that i got from nvida website. i used the same versions for mandrake and redhat. i problem is, i noticed that redhat became "really much faster" but with mandrake, it improved only a little. (its VERY noticeable specially in the screensavers and when i move the windows in the desktop)

is there a problem w/ mandrake, considering that i used the same driver version and the same configuration.

Hmmm, it may be that the binaries were "tweaked" (for lack of better terminology) for Red Hat 9. I know that Gentoo compiles it's drivers from Nvidia, is there a way to snag the drivers in source form to compile them?

i am not sure if the source is present in the nvidia website

similar experience----mandrake was slow

i tried to install my nvidia FX 5200 video card in both using nvidia drivers from their site, and I experienced something similar. Redhat was fine, Mandrake was slow (graphics in general felt not responsive enough).

To make the long story short, I went to Gentoo despite that I was kinda afraid because I did not know anything about gentoo and never heard of it from anyone, but that is what I call fast, and it all installed nicely (but it took very long time).

Aye! I agree, I have Gentoo, and I'm STILL installing portions of it!

Hehe, funny thing, for me nVidia's drivers pretty much wracked my RedHat so I had to remove it (froze when installing rpms, slower graphics in menu loading etc.), while in Mandrake it worked like a charm...

that's weird...
