KDE control centre should run in gnome. There are settings which only influence the way KDE looks and feels, but there are others which give you more general access to the system, such as I described above. You do of course need to have KDE loaded, even if you are not using it.

No I thinkg he means he changed the cd-rom from master to slave and now it's not detected.

Go into BIOS [what pc brand you using?]
usually this is:
reboot and tap F1 or F2 or F7 or [ if you bought mobo seperately] DELETE until you get to Bios.

F5 will reset bios defaults: Yes - enter.
F10 will save and exit: save? YES - enter

go back into Bios and check if your cd-rom is detected.
