Mandrake 9.0 overwrote System Cmdr

Anyone have System Commander experience? I have just found out VCOM does not support v7 anymore (can't believe they won't support one version back). Anyhow, the Mandrake Linux installation has overidden the System Commander multi-boot software and the documentation does not discuss how to restore the SC boot-up process.

Any suggestions?

Any chance you can re-install SC?

If not, then beware of bootloaders which take over the MBR. This is still a common problem, because many folks don't understand the significance of being asked by an installer if the distro may put the bootloader in the MBR. Nor are the consequences explained. Nor, in some cases, is the question even asked in the normal installation process. (It gets hidden in "Advanced Boot Options" or some such).

Beware, everyone who has his/her own bootloader: Most Linux distros default behavior is to put GRUB (or lilo) in the MBR, sometimes without asking or at least without asking clearly. So, if you have your own bootloader, and you aren't asked where to put GRUB, then track down how to tell the installer to put it (or lilo) in the 1st sector of your root partition.

Or else abort the installation.

Or plan on re-installing your bootloader.
