Mandrake 8.1 question

I have a partitioned hard drive, and have Mandrake 7.2 currently installed. I downloaded all of 8.1 to my desktop on Windows, and I am looking to upgrade. I have tried making a boot floppy, and using the hd.img, but when I restart it doesn't begin installation. What am I doing wrong?

I'm not sure you can upgrade a version that old. I would backup what you need and just do a fresh install with ext3 filesystem.

Did you make your hd.img from Mandrake 8.1 with either

rawrite for windows

or

dd if=hd.img of=/dev/fd0 thru Linux

If so then it should at least boot up you might have to hit enter at the boot prompt to get it going.

you cannot just simply copy hd.img to a: you must use either rawrite or dd if .

Under linux if you can cd to the directory that has the hd.img use the dd if=hd.img of /dev/fd0 (as root) and make sure you have a floppy in.

If your planning on ugrading or installing Mandrake 8.1 with content from all three cd remember to put RPM2 and RPM3 in with the same directory RPM is in.
