Mandrake 8.0 install and uninstall

I have successfully installed Mandrake 8.0 on a second hard drive, with my first HD having W2K. However, I wanted to boot linux by diskette and I was able to make a boot diskette during install, but Mandrake automatically uses LILO and gives me a menu to choose W2K or Linux without the diskette. I didn't want this, but it does work quite well.

What can I do to make Mandrake boot by diskette and not use LILO automatically?
Did LILO change my MBR? If so, how may I get it back to the way it was?

Thanks for your experience.

If you're sure it's lilo and when you boot without a boot disk, then lilo was written to your mbr. You may be able to get rid of it by booting into linux and as root run the command /sbin/lilo -u. If a copy of your mbr was made by the installation program, then running this command will restore your mbr.

If this doesn't work, then you'll need a windows boot disk or an msdos disk that will boot into dos and has the program fdisk on it. When booted into dos, run the command fdisk /mbr and that should restore your mbr.

sounds good

Thanks linuxcool. I may give this a shot.

Would a Win98 boot disk fix my MBR that has W2K on it?

I've never tried it, but I believe that it would. First, try the /sbin/lilo -u command.
