Mandrake 10.0 good install

Hello Group

I am a new Linux user since I do not want to go higher than w98se so I have been looking for a Linux os that is easy to install. I am only a user and not into messing with the software so I need an os that will recognize all the hardware like 98 would. Lindows 4.0, Mepis 2003, Sun Java Desktop and Suse 9.1 did not recognize all my hardware. Those distros required more work and like I said, I do not want to do this kind of thing. I saw on another group that Mandrake 10.0 would work so I downloaded and burned the three cds. Installation was very smooth. I went with the defaults and selected kde desktop.
My Linux box is a computer that has a 1.4g cpu that came with Lindows 4.0 installed. No windows.
30gb hd which failed after 6 months but might have been cause by me. I installed a 80gb, 7200rpm hd just below the 30gb, heat probably. I have a good fan now.
Onboard video, audio, network, usb, included kbd, mouse speakers, Cd rom.
I had a monitor.
I installed a floppy, burner, firewire card. An external 80gb firewire hd is used for backing up files. I have an external four port usb 1.1 hub with a 32 meg ThumbDrive and hp c82 printer plugged into the hub. Printer config. was a breeze.
I logged onto the internet after installation since I have a cable modem. I do not know if this would work with a dial up modem since I do not have one.
I was able to open pdf, doc, rtf, jpeg files just by clicking on the file in the external hd or ThumbDrive. I may not be considered a Linux type but I like the change.

I do not play games so I did not have any video issues.

This appears to be a good distro for those who are not geek types, at least it worked for me. By the way, I cheated and followed instructions to the letter.

Cheers
