Mandrade 8.1 under 8GB?

Hello there,

I am new to this board and linux. I am trying to do my very first install of Linux so bear with me here.

I am using System Commander 7.03 to partition, and manage the partitions, on my 18GB HDD. This drive currently has Windows 2000 Pro on it. While configuring System Commander to install Linux on the HDD, there is a message that says most distros of Linux must be installed under the 8GB mark on the HDD. Something to do with number of cylinders or something. I have the option of installing under the 8GB mark, or telling System Commander to NOT limit where Linux is installed. Does Mandrake 8.1 have to be installed under 8GB?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.

no it doesn't it can be installed anywhere, as it has a newer version of lilo.

i wouldn't bother using that commander whatever thingy, mandrake contains a really good partition tool on it's installation prog
