Man probelms after kernel upgrade.

I upgraded from 2.6.7 to 2.6.9 and now man gives me an error.

Error executing formatting or display command.
System command (cd /usr/man && (echo " .ll 9.li"; echo " .pl 1100i"; /bin/gunzip -c '/usr/X11R6/man/man1/startx.1x.gz' ; echo ".\\\""; echo ".pl \n(nlu+10") | /usr/bin/gtbl | /usr/bin/nroff -S -mandoc | /usr/bin/less -is) exited with status 256.
no manual entry for startx

If I do this from console this is all I get. but if I am at the command prompt before entering X it will give me a page of the man page exiting with this error. It does it with any man page. It works if I boot back to the 2.6.7 kernel.

When I compiled the 2.6.9 kernel I just copied the .config file over.
