Making an exact copy? k3d failed

I just had a a crash of XP professional and I need to copy my XP cd, its locking up everytime i try to reinstall the system with the cd, i've had the problem in the past and was able to make a copy of it and correct the problem but i've lost the copy and I'm looking to copy it in Linus, i used what i had on hand a set of Mandrake 10.0 cd's, got that system up and running fine and used k3d to start attempint to copy the xp cd?
I tried in both normal mode and clone mode, don't really know the difference, but 2 attempts on both gave me coasters?
can anyone help?

<---downloading new version of Mandrake, just in case, when k3d was out-of-date, and tried to upgrade but gave me bunch of dependency issues, didn't want to mess with them.

Sounds like you should stick with an OS that works...

I don't really understand why you need to copy the XP cd in order to install it. I would be surprised if microsoft hadn't built in some copy protection so that you couldn't make a useable copy of that disc. Although you did say you had done it before, which leads me back to the original question, why do you need a copy if you already have XP?

Sorry I'm not much help asking questions in response to your question
