"make xconfig" - fonts are Squares!

As the title suggests, the graphical kernel configuration (make xconfig) displays only the little "squares" (For instance, visiting a Chinese site without Chinese text support installed would render a similar scenario)

How can I fix this? Can I tell xconfig to use a specific font or something?

I'm in GNOME.

[EDIT]

Eh, I can just use "make menuconfig" no biggie :P

Kujila,

I had the same problem with Mandrake 10.0 Community, but got it sorted after doing a bit of digging on Google.

Run 'qtconfig'and choose the 'fonts' tab, then either choose a different font in the default section, or turn off the Anti-Aliasing by clearing the two checkboxes at the bottom of the tab. 'make xconfig' should run ok afterwards.

Hope that helps :-)
