Make RAID 1 After installation

I've a IBM server xseries 225. It is running on software RAID 1 and the OS is RH 7.1. IT contains 1 scsi hdd 36 GB each. I've purchased a new 36 GB scsi hdd. I want to add that hdd in the existing RAID. My existing hdd contains /boot (100MB), / (12GB), swap (2GB), /var (2GB) and /opt (20GB). how can I add the new hdd and create RAID 1 without reinstalling OS. Is there any fear of losing data during this process ?

I recommend backing up the data. Then read http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/text/Software-RAID-HOWTO. You will have to setup your boot loader so it can boot to one of the two drives. Also you will need to change /etc/fstab.
